Not too long ago, my friend’s marriage was dead. In fact, this friend (who we’ll call Kathy*) noticed a lot of things were going wrong in her life. Her friends were icy to her. She was unusually lonely. Any time she tried to make her husband talk to her, it was met with icy, snappy remarks.

She was having mental breakdowns on the regular. She was desperate to know what she could do to fix things—and she was deluded to try to think that they could be fixed. But, she wasn’t ready for that news at the time.

Kathy asked me for a reading. I obliged. I pulled cards asking about the future of her marriage. The reading kept having the same three cards over and over and over again: Ace of Swords, Tower, and 8 of Cups.

Long story short, she discovered messages on her husband’s phone that showed some really horrible behavior from everyone around her. Her “friends” hated her. Her relationship was not salvageable at all, despite the hints her spouse gave. It was all a lie.

They’re now divorced. She refused to speak with anyone who betrayed her, though she did confront them. Stories like this happen every day. Truth has a way of revealing itself, especially in tarot. If you’re hoping a secret will be revealed, watch for these cards.

Which tarot cards suggest secrets being revealed?

Like with all tarot, any card can mean a secret being revealed. So, always use a little bit of discernment when it comes to what you’re discussing and think about the context clues around the discussion. Oh, and always listen to your gut. With that said, let’s get it on.

7 of Swords

If there was ever a card that talked about deception, it’s the 7 of Swords. In it, a crafty thief can be seen walking away with a pile of pilfered swords. In the background, soldiers can be seen watching him as he walks away.

The message here is clear, especially if you’re the one pulling the fast one: people are likely already aware something is up, if not totally aware of what you’re doing. Expect shit to hit the fan sooner rather than later if you’re doing dodgy stuff.

Ace of Swords

Like all Ace Cards, this tends to be seen as a big deal—and a generally nice card to have. This is a card that is meant to signify breakthroughs, new opportunities, or major life-altering revelations.

In the case of Kathy, the Ace of Swords was still kind of a good sign despite it heralding the end of her relationship. It forced her to look at the reality of the situation. Once she saw what was what, it was much easier for her to walk away from it all.

The High Priestess

Perhaps it’s just me, but I’ve noticed that the High Priestess tends to come out whenever secrets are being held. Unlike other cards here, this tends to be a nudge that tells you, “Hey, you know what is going on. Your intuition is telling you that truth and you need to stop questioning yourself.”

If the secret-keeper is female, you also might find this card being an admission of guilt.

Tower

The Tower card might be the scariest card in the deck. When this keeps getting pulled, you know shit’s about to go down. Let me explain it in the classic spiel I used:

Towers fall when they need to fall. Fighting it does not help. From personal experience, the Tower card tends to happen when you’re not expecting it—a job gone bad, a relationship that has cheating, or similar stuff. It gets revealed. And it’s not pretty.

The Moon

Ah, the Moon. There was an old belief that the most secretive of plans always happened under moonlight. The Moon card in tarot has a lot of meetings, often somewhat convoluted.

This is a card that often has something to do with the theme of illusions, delusions, mental illness, or deception. More often than not, it’s a sign that something isn’t right. Whether it’s your own mind playing tricks on you or your own entourage doing the same can often be revealed by the cards.

For example, I’ve pulled the Moon card when it came to Kathy’s attitude about her marriage—a sign that she was delusional. I’ve also pulled it when I asked about my former boss’s intentions with me. He pulled a fast one on me.

2 of Swords

This is often a card that I get when I am stuck in a crossroads or when I should see the clues in front of me but I refuse to. The blindfold and guarded stance of the person is a metaphor for being the guy who shouts “LALALALA I’M NOT LISTENING!”

Eventually, that blindfold has to come off. The question is, will it be willingly or unwillingly.

The Magician

So, I’ve noticed that the Magician can be a card that comes with a lot of different meanings. It can mean an exceptional, savant-like worker. However, it often means someone who has a way of flim-flamming other people.

By itself, the Magician tends to be a sign that someone isn’t who they appear. However, when combined with other cards associated with betrayal, it can often point to the guilty party who did you wrong.

What tarot cards indicate a new job offer or a new job on the horizon?

Ah, a new job. That’s the light at the end of the tunnel, no? A new job can make a whole world of difference. Let’s talk about the most notorious cards for this.

Note: Quick reminder, I use Rider-Waite for the basic interpretations of these cards. If you use a different deck, then you might have a different result and a different interpretation. Use your eyes and your gut with tarot! Always.

Ace of Pentacles

I often call this the “Golden Opportunity” card. It’s a card that is literally the job offer you’ve been hoping for being handed to you, often in a surprising manner. From personal experience, I’ve noticed this as a card that you get when you’re dealing with well-paid opportunities.

Three of Pentacles

Ooh, this is the “teamwork” card. Most of the time, I pull this when I see contracts being signed or when you’re about to pick up some contract work. If you’re looking for gigs or 1099 roles, this is one of the best cards that you can pull because it means you’re getting that contract signed and you’re getting integrated into the team.

Ace of Wands

Generally speaking, all Ace cards tend to be generally positive. The Ace of Wands is a card that appears when doors are opening—and not the small ones, either. These are often the giant, bow-on-top opportunities that can transform your life.

However, I’ve noticed that this can also display an “opportunity” that isn’t really that big of an opportunity. Rather, the people offering it can see you as a source of free labor. So take a look at the cards surrounding it. All that glitters is not gold!

King of Pentacles/Knight of Pentacles/Page of Pentacles

These all tend to be cards that are used to denote people, such as a boss, an intern, or a coworker in finance. However, if you’re not in finance, you might see this as a sign heralding new contracts or a new benefactor.

Generally speaking, the older the guy, the more likely it is that you’ll get a large sum of money from him. It also can indicate that you’re growing in your career—a great sign for you to have!

Six of Wands

I mean, the card kind of speaks for itself. A triumphant knight is being paraded around a street, to the cheers of onlookers. This is called the “Victory Card” for a reason. It’s all about being recognized and rewarded for the work you did and the battles you fought.

If you had a very difficult time getting a job so far, this is the card you want to see. It’s a sign the war’s over.

Ten of Pentacles

Ah, what’s not to love about all this? An older man looks over as his son and daughter-in-law dance. Pets are happily resting nearby, in a beautiful garden filled with coins. This is a sign of stability in the future, often a sign that the job will be able to help cement yourself and your family for the long run.

In some cases, this can also denote a family business.

Nine of Cups

A man proudly displays his nine filled cups in the air, right in front of a golden background. He’s happy. This card is one of two “wish cards” seen in the standard Rider-Waite tarot deck.

This is a sign of a wish being granted. If your wish was to get a new job, that’s a sign that it will happen sooner than you think.

The Sun

The Sun is one of those cards that is hard to hate. It’s bright, sunny, filled with golden flower, and also features a baby riding on a horse on the way to the viewer. This is a card that is meant to evoke feelings of optimism. Cheer up, buttercup!

The new baby often indicates children but in a career, it often indicates new projects or opportunities. It’s all about nurturing your opportunities here. Oh, and since it’s the Sun card, I’ve noticed that most jobs that get this tend to show that they are on the up-and-up.

All tarot cards are subjective, so make sure to keep an eye on what you asked and how you asked it. Here are the ones in the Rider-Waite deck that raise my hackles when it comes to the job market and job stability.

7 of Swords

Most of us (kind of) have an idea when we’re on the chopping block. We start getting written up more. Rumors of a layoff start swirling. People start giving you this weird vibe that they know something but don’t want to tell you. People avoid eye contact.

Then wham, boom!

You’re let go.

The 7 of Swords has that energy. You know something is afoot. You see the workings. Maybe you see someone stealing credit or sabotaging your work. This is your sign to act strategically so you don’t have a hard landing.

5 of Pentacles

Tower aside, the 5 of Pentacles is my least favorite card in the deck. It’s the card of poverty. Two injured people are seeing trudging along in the snow. They’re wearing tattered clothing. They’re hungry and sick. They are also locked out from the warmth of the church in the background—or perhaps, going there for sanctuary.

Nicknamed the “Poverty Card,” this message is clear: you’re going to have a bad time in the realm of finances. You’re going to suffer. It will be clear to others around you that you’re hurting for cash. And if you’re married, it often means that you will bear an unusually heavy load for you and your partner.

Speaking as someone who kept getting this for the past three years, I can say it was rough.

5 of Swords

Whenever I see this in a job spread or a career spread, I tend to warn people. Much like the 5 of Pentacles, this is generally a bad card to pull. In it, you can see a person walking away with (clearly stolen) swords while two others cry over it.

This is a card that suggests that you might get pushed out of a job, perhaps by a bully. It’s regularly pulled when you’re in a toxic environment. If you get this one, you may want to leave your job before you’re booted out.

The Tower Card

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: the Tower Card is a sign you'd better brace for impact. Your shit’s about to go down. If you pulled this asking about your job, there’s a very good chance that your “totally solid, not going anywhere” job is going to evaporate.

On the other hand, the Tower can (theoretically) be a good card to see if you are dealing with a wall of problems that you must overcome. It could be a sign that the “Ivory Tower” keeping you out might come tumbling down. It’s just that I don’t really see that interpretation too often.

A good rule of thumb is that you should look for employment if you notice that you got the Tower quite often in your career.

Death

I think this is self-explanatory, right? Death is all about endings and transitions. If you pick this when asking about your job, you’re going to end something. Even if the job itself isn’t over, the energy around it says you want out. It’s a “Dead-End Job.”

10 of Swords

Oof. This is basically a combination of the Tower and the 5 of Swords. It’s a guy being stabbed in the back, 10 times, by swords. He’s dead. The situation is over. There’s the dawn of a new day happening. It’s peaceful because he’s at rock bottom.

This is a card I’ve pulled when I’ve been betrayed by coworkers and forced out of a job. There’s no more fight there. It’s all done. All you can do now is just leave.

Judgment

Maybe this is just a “me” thing, but I also noticed that the Judgment card tends to be a sign of a job ending. While it has a reputation as a “second chances” card or a “wakeup call” card, I’ve noticed that it also can mean something quite literal: they’re judging you.

If they don’t like what they see, this card can indicate that it’s time to look for new opportunities.

3 of Swords

Do you adore your job? Like, is it your raison d’etre? If so, watch for this card. This is a heartbreak card. (I mean, c’mon. Three swords through a heart. Ouch!) Expect this if there’s an office betrayal, a sudden layoff, or being booted from your job.

8 of Cups

Not all tarot cards that indicate a job loss are cards that suggest that you’re going to hate losing your job. The 8 of Cups is one such card. This shows a person leaving a stack of cups of his own volition as the moon looks onward in a slightly annoyed manner.

In other words, this is a card that indicates you might say, “Screw this shit! I’m going home.”

The World

Most people read the world as a “happy ending” card. You’ve finished this stage of your life. It’s the end of the game and you have to level up. You need to make sure that you’re ready to tackle the next gig in line.

Yes, you might lose your job. No, it might not always be your choice. But yes, something new is coming.

Which tarot cards indicate career sabotage?

Great question. I’ve noticed that many of the cards that come from the main job loss pile tend to suggest career sabotage and issues. More specifically, the ones to watch for include:

• 3 of Swords - Considered a “Betrayal” card

• 5 of Swords - Considered a “Office Bullying” card

• 7 of Swords - Considered a “Obvious Fuckery” card

• 10 of Swords - Considered a “Betrayal” card

However, there are other cards that might suggest problems in the workplace. Here’s what you might want to keep an eye out for…

Magician/High Priestess + 7 of Swords + 5 of Swords

Be careful! These cards suggest that a man or woman might be pulling a sleight of hand in your office that will screw you over. This is also a sign of a toxic workplace that you might get tossed from.

5 of Wands + King of Swords/Queen of Swords

Generally speaking, you should never anger a “Swords” leader in the workplace. It will fuck your life up. They tend to be the type of people who will cut you down to size and get your ass thrown out.

Moon + 5 of Swords

Most tarot card combinations are a little more overt about the way they show sabotage. This is a sign that the office bullying is covert in nature. You might think everything is okay, but it’s not.

This often means that you’re secretly hated at work. Or that you’re about to get slapped upside the face by a cruel reality check.

Ever since I was a little girl, I had a lot of weird dreams involving France and Germany. French came damn near natural to me. German did too—though there were other reasons for that.

I often had a strange fascination with World War II, almost as if some of the historic figures felt a little too familiar. They reminded me of people I knew. Growing up, I was often given media from the 1920s through the 1960s for entertainment.

Laurel and Hardy, the Honeymooners, jazz…that was how I grew up. Lots of classical music too. And as I grew older, something strange started to happen: people started to mention that they had a feeling about a past life of mine that was in France and Germany.

Right before my marriage ended, I dreamt about a place in Europe.

I dreamt I was in a large three-story house by a river in a forest. The house was wrecked, as if it was mostly blown to pieces or torn in half. I saw my then-husband and two of my cats (the Siamese ones) in there.

I was wearing 1940s apparel and somehow I knew I was dead. We were all dead and standing in this broken house. I remember just getting flashes of me walking through the forest at night, hearing a Nazi saying, “ACHTUNG!”

And I remember pretending to be doting on the Nazi. I remember kissing him. Then I took his gun and shot him in the head. Somehow, I knew that particular man experienced soul death. He wasn’t just dead. There was nothing left of his soul.

I dreamt that I said, “Ugh. I hated that fucker.”

Then, the dream cut back to me staring at my husband in the house.

And I remember telling my husband, “I know. We messed up. We didn’t learn. We didn’t get it right.”

He looked at me, “I’m sorry. This was my fault. Maybe we could have lived longer if we had fled earlier.”

I looked at him and said, “It’s okay, my love. I’m just happy to see you again, even like this. We have the next life, and the life after that one to get it right. I love you.”

He looked at me, “I love you too. Are you ready?”

I'm looking in our hands. Two chocolates appeared, one in each of our hands. His was in the shape of a cat. Mine was in the shape of an owl. We kissed. And I nodded to him and said, “I’m ready.”

We ate the chocolates and saw this beautiful golden light that we walked through. I knew somehow that it was supposed to be a reincarnation—or some kind of portal to a spiritual world.

That dream made me try to keep our marriage together for a short time, though the message seemed muddled. Something didn’t seem right about what I interpreted.

Recently, I had another dream.

This time around, I dreamt I was in a concentration camp. I was not a prisoner. I still had my hair. I was wearing a brown skirt past the knee, a jacket, and a light blouse. And I was pushing my two Siamese cats in an old school stroller.

I was in a room somewhere off in a building when I bumped into an SS guard. I remember dropping a paper and he had rolled his eyes at me. He scolded me that people would see me messing with the paperwork and that the cats might distract the guard dogs.

He kissed me and said, “Besides, you don’t want the cats to get taken by prisoners.”

I remember dreaming that I smirked and said they “knew what would happen” if they messed with my cats. He laughed. I looked down and noticed mud on my shoes. I remember saying I was going to make someone shine the shoes.

I woke up and thought that the dream was unusually vivid. I immediately knew that I was a Nazi wife in this dream.

On a hunch, I searched up if there was ever a Nazi who brought cats in a stroller.

This is a screenshot from my search on my phone. My jaw dropped. There was a woman who was apparently rumored to have brought cats in a stroller to a concentration camp: Ilse Koch, the Bitch of Buchenwald.

Words can’t describe the chill I got down my spine when I read that. I did more research and found uncanny parallels:

• She worked as a stenographer at a bookstore. I work as a professional writer and was a former librarian.

• She was attracted to violent men. My dating history is notoriously peppered with felons.

• She was nine years younger than her husband. My husband was nine years younger than me. She outlived her husband. Maybe this time, my ex will outlive me.

• Neither of us has a college degree. She was a wife and had no credentials.

• Her home was a three-story home, about five miles away from a river. This would match what I saw in my first dream.

• She was a noted sex addict who clearly took out her anger in others, often via jaw-droppingly sadistic behavior. And I am a noted sex addict who gets very angry during dry spells. While I would never kill someone to get my jollies off, I can be a very sadistic top (as a switch) in BDSM scenes. I just make a point of actually talking things out so that things remain consensual, safe as can be, and sane.

I felt sick to my stomach. Could that have been me?

Bro, was I a monstrous war criminal?

I obviously don’t know for sure.

Though there is some evidence of reincarnation and life after death, thanks to visionaries like Dr. Long, there’s no official way to say that we reincarnate. Moreover, there’s no way to fully know for sure who we were in our past lives if we do reincarnate.

Part of me wants to pick this stuff apart. I do not want to believe that I was someone like Ilse Koch. I kept looking for accounts of the cats in a stroller story online, but couldn’t find it. So maybe it was AI going haywire, but still, how small are the chances that something would coincide with the dreams I had?

I did, however, find out she had a zoo that was right on the outskirts of Buchenwald—only used by the SS and families. She was apparently known for being an animal lover, though I am not sure she ever had cats.

Moreover, she didn’t have connections to France, while I definitely felt a strange pull to 40s France alongside my weird dreams about Germany. So not everything matched up, though an unsettling amount of it did.

Though there was always the chance that it was just a fluke, just realizing the parallels made me feel sick. Why was I getting those dreams? Why do so many psychics regularly mention Germany AND France as my past life?

Why did they seem so uncanny, so real?

Thinking about the implications terrifies me.

If I were Ilse Koch in a past life, one would have to wonder why I did what I did and why I chose that path. I think most people would wonder the same thing. And worse still, realizing that if it was you in your past life, doesn’t that mean you did those crimes?

It all started to hit me. Was that who I am, in real life? Am I meant to be evil to the core? A sociopath? A cold-blooded killer? Could I have chosen to not be an evil bitch? Was Ilse who I am now? Am I still that evil, deep down inside?

Then I started to wonder: am I capable of doing that level of extreme evil to people in this lifetime? And if not, what changed? Was it my own inner work? Am I still meant to be a monster?

I felt guilt. Horror. Shock. Dismay. And total bewilderment. And guilt. So much guilt.

I often joke that I had to be Hitler in a past life as a result of the hell I was put through. Sometimes, I’d say I was “double Hitler,” just to drive home how bad things got at times. Well, this discovery might have just fucking proved that hunch to be relatively on point.

If I actually was Ilse, then I deserved every horrible thing that has happened to me in this lifetime. All the trauma, the hurt, the abandonment…it wouldn’t have made up for what I did before.

And that’s when I realized something about life before life.

It’s said that we choose the lives we live right now to learn a lesson or a number of lessons. I’ve also had dreams that said certain things can kill a soul—and I believe the Nazi I dreamt I “shot” after death was a person who lost his soul.

For the life of me, I can’t understand how mass murders wouldn’t kill your soul outright. Perhaps that’s something that I can’t fully explain, or that is beyond one’s comprehension.

One thing I often wondered was why we weren’t allowed to know who we were in past lives. Well, I figured it out now. If we knew who we were, we’d still carry the old relationship dynamics into new bodies. And if you reincarnated from a monstrous person, you likely would never live it down—literally.

We’d still carry the same scars, the same privileges, and we would stagnate. A new slate allows us to learn a new way of seeing things. It also allows us to recognize how nuanced life is, provided that we remember everything on the other side.

Here’s what I realized about my life lesson related to Ilse.

Ilse was a cold-blooded bitch. If I am her soul reincarnated, I know I would likely be here to learn empathy. I can’t always empathize with people very easily, especially those that I feel hurt me.

Realizing that I might have been the one who hurt them first in a past life, made me think about things. While I might not always be friendly with people from now on, I do want to learn to better sit in others’ shoes and help others do the same.

I won’t lie. I do not like the possibility that I was a Nazi murderer in a past life, but knowing that’s a possibility gave me a goal. After putting two and two together, I realized I want to be the opposite of Ilse.

That’s my goal—and maybe that’s why I got a glimpse of a past life in the first place.

Lately, I’ve been getting deep into astrology—much thanks to . As a person who has always been into divination, it’s a rather extreme turn for me. It may not seem like a big deal at first, but it is a big change from my regular tarot and dream interpretation.

You see, tarot always struck me as a snapshot into the future plus some advice. It gave me an idea of what things would be like based on future behavior. Astrology? Well, that’s more set in stone.

Astrology is a unique form of divination because it’s based on the behavior of planets and stars. That’s a lot less random and a lot more structured than, say, pulling something out of a deck of cards. It’s also far more predictable than card pulling.

With predictability comes another major question…

I love the idea of tarot because there always feels to be a certain level of randomness and control. YOU choose the cards. Besides, three people born on the same day would likely choose three different card hands.

The paths of planets are not random nor in control of your whims. They are predictable, they follow orbits established by gravity, and we know where they will be. You can’t move a damn planet yourself.

Doing predictions on YOUR future based on astrological positions related to when and where you were born, therefore, are going to be more predictable than pulling cards out of a deck.

Moreover, that leaves a lot of questions to be answered for the future. For example, what would happen to astrology predictions if we move planets? Or if a baby is born in outer space in the future?

That category of questions also comes with a corollary—if astrology is correct, those stars have major pull on how you turn out as a person. So, does that mean that you can’t really change your future?

Though I was skeptical at first, I noticed that my astrological chart really coincided well with what was going on with my life.

Karen did my chart a while back and several of her warnings were accurate, including some that were specific to the situation I had at home. Her warnings included warnings about false friends (came true), a warning that my marriage was not going to make it (currently divorcing), and that my tax case would get solved soon (true).

She also was able to tell me when my financial situation would start improving—and slowly, it has been. It’s uncanny and I’m far from the only person who has seen a shocking astrology similarity with predictions.

I’ve also had a friend who got his Ayurvedic chart done. That chart predicted his near death experience, down to the very way it happened. It also predicted a shocking change in his personality, to the point that it was a “night and day” type of deal.

Perhaps one of the most shocking examples of astrology come true would deal with the now-notorious 2006 Vanity Fair article by noted astrologer Michael Lutin.

This is what made me a believer when it came to astrological predictions. Lutin was asked to talk about the outcome of the election in a lighthearted way, but instead came out with a stark warning. I’ll just leave a screenshot of the most shocking part of Lutin’s warning, circa 2006:

In 2006, not one single person would have ever talked about the threat of Christian nationalism. Not one single person would have ever predicted that our government would start jailing and shooting US citizens for “being disrespectful,” nor would people have guessed that oligarchs would ruin our quality of life.

Retrospectively, the signs were there. But it was an era of optimism. There was still a unique camaraderie in the air that is now just a brief memory of the past. Nazism and white supremacy was not okay in mainstream society the way it was now.

Every American right now feels shaken to their core over the things happening in our country. And just like Lutin predicted, the root cause of this is America’s greed. Simply put, the timing and the way things unfurled was too uncanny to ignore for me

This was written 20 years ago. And yet it was bang on correct.

Here’s the thing: if we can predict our lives based on the stars, doesn’t that mean we’re fated to do certain things?

For example, Charlie Kirk’s chart had a 22 degree reading on the day of his death—quite literally a “kill or be killed” angle. No one would have guessed he’d die that day, but he did. Was it fated to happen?

I don’t know. If he had chosen to call in sick, would he still be alive? Or would something else have killed him? It’s hard to tell. But maybe he would have survived. Regardless it feels like something else would have sparked up the heat that we see in our collective consciousness even if it wasn’t his assassination.

The stars seem to have an impact on random acts of chance, general trends in life, as well as the way that things unfurl in our world. The more people the star charts are reading for, the less control any individual seems to have and the more control the collective’s fate seems to be apparent.

And frankly, as skeptical as I once was, I can’t explain a lot of the coincidences away. For example, I had a warning in my chart for incarceration that recently passed, and truth be told, I came very close to letting my impulses rule me.

I was not in a good place mentally and when that happens, I tend to drink. Had I let my “shadow side” win, I probably would have gotten drunk and gotten arrested for the fallout. And the weirdest thing was that I probably would have done that had I not been warned ahead of time.

Still, it was shocking to see how close a scrape that was.

The charts also showed something else a bit bizarre: that I would continue to struggle financially until a certain date. Just as predicted, things slowly started to pick up, but only after that set date. Before then, it was as if there was a wall put up to block any betterment I tried.

My take is that astrology can be a surprisingly good predictor, but it can also serve as a guide.

Imagine you were in the shoes of Abraham Lincoln, the day before that fateful theater trip. If someone had told you that you would die if you went to see that show with John Wilkes Booth in it, would you attend? Or no?

You probably wouldn’t want to be shot in the head, so a rain check would likely be made at the theater. (For like, ever.) Well that would change much of history, theoretically speaking—but then again, it might not. At the end of the day, he already changed the world through his presidency.

Truth be told, we cannot fully control what events happen during our lifetimes no matter who we are. I mean, we can’t really control that we were born during global warming. We can’t control what other people do, either.

For example, I didn’t choose to be born in the 80s—or maybe I did, if I agreed to do that soul contract for this incarnation, if you believe that stuff. But theoretically, I didn’t choose to experience 9/11 as a teenager. However, the stars had it in my chart, so to speak. It is something I lived through and I had to “trust the process.”

What we can do, though, is control how we react to it, how we handle it in our day-to-day, and recognize what we do matters in the long run. In that sense, you can use astrology to find out opportunities, oppositions, and pitfalls…so that maybe, just maybe, you can sidestep the worst outcomes.

But what do I know? I’m just as much a random observer of the universe as anyone else.

Did you ever have a moment when you swore, up and down, that the universe was trying to tell you something? If you go on Reddit, you likely have seen people talk about moments when they really felt like the universe was telling them to trust the process—or, perhaps, avoid a serious issue up ahead.

At first glance, these stories seem super “woo woo,” but there’s always story upon story of moments where it served people right. Ever wonder if the universe is trying to give you a message?

Here’s my guide on what to watch for, if you’re willing to hear me out. And yes, if you really feel it, you might want to heed that message.

#1: That Bad Gut Feeling

I’ll let you in on a little secret: your gut feelings are often real. As Gavin de Becker’s The Gift of Fear so aptly explained, our bodies evolved to have gut feelings—quite literally. Our guts have a second brain system that can help us detect danger on a subconscious level.

I’ve often had my gut instinct tell me to avoid certain areas or cut off certain people. So far, I’ve regretted every single time I’ve ignored that feeling. Listen to your gut. It’s rarely ever wrong.

#2: Dreams That Don’t Feel Normal

If you’ve gotten a psychic vibe to you, then you might want to watch your dreams. The phenomenon of prophetic dreams is real—and actually quite heavily documented. Most people who have them tend to feel like the dreams are a bit too real or otherwise unique.

Prophetic dreams can actually show you the events happening, or can come with a more “omen-like” feel. Regardless, if you get a message that feels very real, you might want to listen to it.

#3: Plans Keep Falling Through

So, this is something I’ve noticed in my own life. When you’re not headed the right way in life, things tend to start closing down. For example, I really should not have stayed in my apartment as long as I did up North. It was already pinching my wallet when I signed for my second year.

The harder I fought to stay there, the worse my financial situation got. I couldn’t get a job. I couldn’t get a break on pricing. Stuff started to fall apart, leading to more bills. It was as if the gods themselves were saying, “No, the piggy bank is now closed, LEAVE!”

This kept happening even after I left. The truth is that I was not happy there, nor was I happy in my marriage. This was the universe telling me I needed to leave both. My luck only turned around once I lost my home and began the process of divorce.

#4: Surprise Money!

On the flip side, I’ve also noticed that money has a weird way of pouring in when you are on the right side of life. For example, when I made a commitment to quit kratom, I bought a lottery ticket that day and won $100. (That was quickly spent on food for my family, by the way.)

When I’m on the right track in life, I notice everything seems to get easier. It’s easier to find a job. It’s easier to get gigs. It’s even easier to get discounts at stores. I guess that’s just the universe’s way of showing you that abundance can be yours if you stay the course.

#5: Things Keep Showing Up In Your Feed—Even When You’re Not Logged In

Sometimes, you might actually get a clue from the universe via the internet. Yes, I know that algorithms and ads exist, but sometimes, they really don’t quite explain everything.

One time, I used a random computer to search for something for a friend. In their suggested feed was a video about a specific company that I had just applied for a job with. I ended up working with that company for two whole years.

When I’ve asked for signs from the universe before, I’d often get an ad for YouTube video saying, “Here’s your sign. XXXX will happen soon.”

Coincidence? Likely, but sometimes it still feels a bit uncanny. I take it with a grain of salt—as should you.

#6: Randomly Overhearing The Advice You Needed To Hear

If you’re struggling, keep your ears and eyes peeled while you’re walking through crowds. You might be surprised at what you hear and how relevant it can be to your situation.

A good example of this happened to my friend Shiela*. Shiela just moved across the country for a job. She was lonely and didn’t know anyone. As she was shopping for groceries, she overheard a woman say, “I’m telling you. Just ask God to bring the right people into your life. He will.”

She gave it a shot, though she was an atheist at the time. Two days later, she met a new group of girls who fit perfectly into her life. She actually gushed about them to me over the phone—and I’m happy for her.

#7: Personal Omens

There’s also a phenomenon I’ve notice which I call personal omens—things that just always randomly preclude tragedy or great news, but only for you. My friend Tim* has a bad personal omen when it comes to finding random playing cards on the ground.

Every time he’s found random spilled playing cards, tragedy has befallen him. It’s the weirdest thing and I actually didn’t believe it until I saw it myself. If you notice a pattern with a personal omen of your own, it often can be a sign that you need to brace yourself for (positive or negative) impact.

#8: Coincidences That Are Hard To Ignore

This often coincides with those personal omens I spoke about, but tend to be a little bit more random. A good example of this is thinking about someone you haven’t spoken to in ages, only to hear from them within a day or so.

Or, perhaps you keep having a number show up like 11:11. Or maybe you notice that you keep seeing pandas the closer you come to your vacation in China. Or maybe songs just follow you. You know the vibe, right?

Most psychics agree those little coincidences are not just coincidences. They’re the universe’s way of giving you a heads up that it’s watching out for you—and that this is all part of a grander plan.

#9: Psychics Keep Telling You The Same Thing

True story: I went to four different psychics after a particularly bad breakup. At the time, I was not seriously looking for a writing job. I actually had resigned myself to maybe becoming a house cleaner. My most recent ex had been involved in nasty shit.

Every psychic I saw said the same thing: “You are surrounded by monsters. Also, you will have a writing career.”

Sometimes, you get a sign from the universe that comes in the form of a psychic reading. Pay attention if you keep hearing the same things from each psychic. It may be the universe trying to get your attention.

#10: You’ve Asked For A Specific Sign And Get It

One of the most beautiful stories I’ve ever heard was of a girl whose father was dying. She asked him to send her “roses in the snow” as a sign if there was an afterlife. After he died, the local mailman dropped a box of roses right outside her home during a Valentine’s Day snowstorm.

If you’ve asked for a specific sign that you’re on the right path or that you want proof of something larger, watch to see if you receive it. It’s just like the old saying, “Ask and you shall receive.”

#11: Everything Is Lining Up Perfectly

Are you looking for a sign that the universe is begging you to continue on your path? If things are lining up perfectly for you, that’s your sign. This is your path. You’ve fought and earned your blessings. So, go ahead and get them!

Let’s start off this week with a good guide for newbie card readers. As many people know, tarot cards are often the leading choice for divination via cards—followed up by playing cards.

As a professional reader, one of the top categories for tarot readings involves love. More specifically, people tend to ask me about infidelity and breakups quite a bit. After a while, I noticed certain cards tend to come up fairly often when cheating is involved.

So, which cards tend to suggest infidelity? Here’s my take on the subject.

Legal Note: Tarot is a highly subjective method of divination, which means that any card can mean anything—provided that the context is there. It’s also worth noting that you should not make major life decisions based on your readings alone. When necessary, consult a therapist, a private eye, or an attorney.

Which tarot cards suggest cheating in a relationship?

Technically, any card can be a cheating card because it’s a connotation-heavy artform. However, these are the ones I’ve regularly pulled when dealing with infidelity and cheating.

The Lovers

The Lovers card is a card that I always pull when it comes to sensuality and sexuality. It features two naked people, underneath a tree—reminiscent of Adam and Eve. It wasn’t always this way. In the original print form, there weren’t two people, but three.

The connotation here, obviously, is that the man in the center is being led astray by these women—or that he’s faced with a decision between the two maidens. Though the original illustration has been phased out, the meaning behind the card still lingers in most peoples’ interpretations.

I, personally, still see this as a card that’s mostly about both sexuality and love. However, it definitely can indicate a romantic, emotional, whirlwind type of affair.

The Devil

The Devil card is one of the only cards to mirror the Lovers. In this, a naked man and woman are both chained to the Devil. The interpretation can be a commitment that’s permanent, but it often tends to lend to the idea of a toxic, sordid relationship.

When you get the Devil card in a relationship reading, it’s rarely ever a good thing. While it can mean commitments, it often means there’s a deeply unhealthy streak to the relationship in question. Since it is a card illustrating the point where you basically abandon morality for thrills, this can mean an affair.

A relationship personified by the Devil card is a relationship that has an issue that is slowly destroying the relationship—often addiction. I’ve pulled it several times when asking about drug addict exes as well as exes who were sex addicts. Oddly enough, this card can also come up with BDSM relationships.

At times, it also comes up when one party in the relationship is with their partner due to financial reasons—so called “Golden Handcuffs.” If you pull this, ask yourself if you want to stay with your partner or if your partner seems to want to stay with you. It may be time to cut things loose.

3 Of Cups

While I’ve pulled this card to denote threesomes before, I’ve also seen this card reflect relationships where an affair started with a mutual friend. The idea behind this card is three people partying together—and well, it tends to lead itself into the type of partying that involves drunken hookups.

This is not as bad a sign as the Devil card, but there’s definitely reason for concern if you keep pulling this. Your partner’s “close friend” who seems to be unusually sexually open might be hiding a less fun agenda.

I’m far from the only person to interpret this card this way. It’s nicknamed “the Affair Card” in some online circles.

Note: I don’t read reversed cards. If you do, most people say it’s the 3 of Cups reversed that suggests this outcome.

7 Of Swords

Whenever I pull the 7 of Swords, I expect to see some sketchy trickery, some deception, and maybe a little strategy. The 7 of Swords depicts a thief stealing swords while a camp watches him off in the distance. He’s wily, he’s cunning, and he knows what he’s doing is wrong.

In my experience, the 7 of Swords comes whenever someone is about to pull a fast one on you or when you need to pull a fast one. This card is a double-edged sword, though, because pulling this often means the victim party is either wise to it or will discover it soon enough.

3 Of Swords

Yes, most threes tend to be a sign of an extra party in your relationship. The 3 of Swords is one of the worst cards to pull in a relationship reading. Why? Because it literally shows three swords slicing through a heart. Ouch!

The 3 of Swords does not mince words. This is a betrayal that will smash your heart into little pieces. While this card is a “3” card and tends to be most heavily linked to affairs, the truth is that this card comes up any time betrayal or heartbreak are at play.

10 Of Swords

Perhaps the only other card to be as literal about betrayal as the 3 of Swords is the 10 of Swords. This card literally depicts a person stabbed in the back by 10 swords, laying in a pool of his own blood, dying, as he watches the sunrise off in the distance.

In other readings, this actually means you hit rock bottom and things can’t get any worse. It’s a card of endings, both relationship and otherwise. With relationships, this can portend a relationship-ending betrayal.

Be very careful if you see this card around other cards mentioned. It could be a sign of physical, emotional, and yes, financial infidelity as well.

The Tower

If you’ve asked about discovering an affair or have been asking about the future of your relationship, you’re probably dreading the Tower. The Tower card is all about getting rid of things that don’t serve you—or at the very least, forcefully addressing it.

The Tower card is a card of inevitable change, and it’s generally change you don’t want. It’s having the rug pulled out from under your feet, possibly out of the blue. If you get this card in your relationship, chances are high that you might have an abrupt, unexpected end.

For example, all of the following might be a Tower moment in a relationship:

• Your husband announces that he’s divorcing you and announces that he’s actually gay, no warning given.

• You both got into an explosive, violent, relationship-ending argument.

• Your boyfriend tells you that he’s leaving and that he’s been dating your best friend.

• Your husband dies.

• You discover that your wife has been cheating on you by walking in on her with her lover.

The Tower is what you pull when you’re living a lie and the universe is telling you enough is enough. It will hurt like hell, but do not try to fight it. If a breakup ensues, understand it’s not a relationship worth saving.

Two Of Pentacles

This coin card tends to involve “juggling,” much like the juggler on the card who’s trying to balance two coins behind some very wild, raggy seas. I typically pull this when I feel my bank account getting stretched thin and find myself forced to do a lot more gigs.

However, in a relationship reading, it often means that someone is juggling multiple people. It can mean they also feel stretched thin between relationship demands and other parts of their life, so keep an eye on surrounding cards to get a better idea.

The Moon

You know how some folks have a spouse by day, but tend to spend their nights with a different lover? This is often what the Moon card suggests. The Moon card is a very mysterious card involving duality—two towers, a path between a wolf and a dog (the tame and wild), and little light to explain it all.

The Moon’s connotations tend to be pretty strong.

• First, one or both partners are not doing well mentally. The Moon is a card of mental illness as well as gaslighting. Every time I’ve pulled this for myself, my cards were telling me that I was spiraling and that I wasn’t seeing reality as-is. Every time I pulled it for a relationship, it involved either serious mental illness or heavy gaslighting, or both.

• This is also a card of secrecy. The weird, dreamlike imagery of the Moon card is meant to make everything feel like a smokescreen. The Moon suggests secrets being kept from you. You might even feel a little nutty because they’re so well-hidden, you might feel crazy for even doubting your partner.

• Obviously, this card also tends to have a heavy emphasis on nighttime meetups. This is the card that you’d pull if your spouse was, say, going out to a nightclub or a bordello to get his fill. It also can be a sign of a wife sneaking out at night.

5 Of Swords

Have you ever experienced a person who was hellbent on wedging themselves into your relationship? If you have, you know how it feels. You literally feel yourself being pushed out by that third person, even being “bullied” out of your own relationship.

While this can also indicate a person like a very hateful in-law trying to sabotage your relationship, it often shows a “friend” who has less-than-noble intentions between you two. If you’ve noticed a particular person encroaching on your relationship, this is the warning you’ve been waiting for.

In my own experience, the 5 of Swords is a sign that you’re fighting a futile battle. If another person can pull your relationship apart, it was never meant to be.

What should you do if you pull cards that suggest an affair in your reading?

Well, obviously, you should look at the other cards in your reading and figure out if there’s more to the story that meets the eye. I always tell people that tarot can give you hints and depict what’s going on at that very point in your life—and moreover, tarot is not a guarantee.

If you’re very worried about an affair happening in your relationship, it may be time to talk to your partner, take a look for evidence, or even consider breaking up. After all, you shouldn’t have to trust cards more than your spouse.

The best way to think about it is like getting a strange symptom. That symptom could be a sign of a cold. Or it could be your allergies acting up. Doing a little more investigation is always the best move.

For the past two days, America and much of the world has been witnessing a massive G4-level solar storm. This resulted in bright, colorful aurora borealis displays as far south as Florida—at least, in some occasions.

Having seen the (though dim) Northern Lights one night, I couldn’t help but feel like I was watching something magical. Like, it felt so surreal! It was like the gods themselves decided to put on a light show.

Unsurprisingly, the Northern Lights have a lot of superstitions around them, all of which seem to be totally random when it comes to the overall vibe of what they portend. I got curious about what each culture said, so I looked it up.

PROTIP - One of these is not like the other, and deals with a major political issue today.

Visits to and from the Dead

So, here’s one interesting theme I noticed about the Northern Lights: visits from the dead. Many groups of Native Americans believed the aurora borealis was a sign that the dead are coming to pay a visit, or as a sign that they are close by and watching.

In Nordic legends, the aurora was seen as a part of the “Bifrost Bridge,” a glowing arc that the Valkyries would use to bring fallen warriors over to Valhalla. In Greenland, natives used to believe that the glow came from the souls of babies who died at birth.

Certain Inuit tribes also believed they were a sign of danger to come. One tribe even advised against whistling at the Northern Lights, out of fear that the lights would come to take you away.

Research shows that many tribes seem split on the meaning of auroras. At least one tribe (the Fox, from Wisconsin) believed that the lights were a sign from their enemies’ dead, saying they wanted revenge.

Other tribes, though, view them as a sign of prosperity and security.

A Tie To The Sea

Isn’t it weird how watery the Northern Lights can look? Auroras tend to be seen near areas with lots of water, too—Finland, Norway, Iceland, Greenland, Alaska…You get the deal. I’m just going to leave some quotes about superstitions here:

In Sweden and other parts of Scandinavia, seeing an aurora was considered to be a good omen that indicated you’d find lots of fish nearby. I mean, not for nothing, but fishing under an aurora sounds amazing.

There’s also a spiritual sign to this. Certain Arctic tribes also believed these lights indicated that whales were having a party. Inuits also occasionally claimed it was a walrus spirit playing with a human skull.

Famous Creatures Far N’ Wide

In China and much of Asia, the sight of an aurora was seen as a highly auspicious event. They were often tied to activities from legendary dragons. More specifically, it was seen as a sign of a great battle between malevolent and benevolent dragons.

The Chinese have long since mentioned auroras in their writings. In fact, the oldest document naming Northern Lights was found in China. Aboriginals in Australia, on the other hand, viewed the lights as a sign that the gods were dancing in the sky.

But it didn’t stop there, either.

Among the superstitious in Japan, it was even said that a child conceived under an aurora would be extremely lucky. Oh, and keeping in line with the idea of famous creatures, Finland had the myth of the firefox, leaving an aurora in the sky as a trace of its tail.

Foreboding Tragedies

In much of Europe, the sight of an aurora borealis wasn’t a good thing at all. Folks in France, for example, believed that it was a warning sign of a pending war. Red auroras, in particular, were linked to be omens of bloodshed and war.

Perhaps the most alarming omen tied to the lights was warning of a death of a king, which I found on Reddit the other day. I tried to look this up elsewhere but was unable to find any sources, though it is known that the French Revolution had quite a few aurora precursors.

According to this source, French folks had every reason to fear a red aurora after a while. They happened before the Revolution, during the Franco-Prussian War, as well as several other moments of bloodshed. Yikes!

Oh, and in World War II, there was another aurora borealis spatter around 1941—right after the United States joined the war, ramping up the bloodshed. It was even given the nickname “the Aurora Blitz.”

Hm. Maybe there’s something going on here.

I find it very interesting that “blood lights” were seen in the Revolution as well as today.

The older I get, the more I believe in astrology. I’ve had an astrologer () predict and reveal parts of my life that I had never spoken about to anyone. And right now, I have my eyes on the skies.

Hearing about the same solar storms happening during the French Revolution as what we’re seeing today is very chilling. The only time we had similar upheavals in America was around the same time as both the US and French Revolutions.

Incidentally, that’s also the last time the stars looked the way they did.

Should the red auroras be a sign of something to come, the message seems to be clear: batten down the hatches, make love ( not war), and don’t whistle at the lights. As for me? I’m going to thank my lucky stars that I saw green lights and not red ones.

Let’s face it: the standard Rider-Waite tarot deck has quite a few pictures that are abysmal in nature. Getting a 3 of Swords clearly means heartbreak (or betrayal). Pulling a Tower card always tends to make even the most well-footed reader get the nervous sweats. And 5 of Swords? Oh, you better believe you might be bullied or stolen from.

The 10 of Swords is one of those cards that very clearly seems to mean doom and gloom. It’s traditionally illustrated as a man wearing a red cloak, stabbed by 10 swords. He’s dead, lying and looking at the dawn of a new horizon breaking through a black sky.

You really can’t get a more grim picture, if you think about it.

Traditionally, the 10 of Swords has a bad meaning.

I’ll run it through for you, in a brief explainer for each major field, okay? I do not do reversals in my readings because I always viewed it as an affront to the artwork. So, we’re going to stick with the general readings most people see right-side-up.

Love

Betrayal, often of the worst kind. The end of a relationship, a divorce that was long, drawn-out, and painful. There is no life left in whatever relationship you’re in if you pull this.

Career

This often means a backstabbing from office politics, a theft at work, or a loss of a job through no fault of your own. The idea here is that you’ve hit rock bottom.

Finances

Basically the same thing as above. Financially, pulling that 10 of Swords is a sign that you hit rock bottom, are totally penniless and broke. You tried. You failed. It’s not possible to get worse. I got this a lot when I was going through a bankruptcy as an outcome.

Health

I often read this as either getting a rather painful surgery, spine issues, or drug issues that make things worse. In some cases, it can also be a sign of medical malpractice.

Yikes, right?

Yeah, the looks of this card are pretty bad. No matter what the reading, this tends to suggest a big disaster. But there’s a flipside that I tend to focus on quite a bit. The 10 of Swords can be dismal, but there’s a side to it that most people ignore: the sunrise on the horizon.

There’s a hidden message in the card that makes it one of the less awful cards to get, so to speak. It’s all about the perspective.

Here’s why I don’t always fear the 10 of Swords…

The 10 of Swords has a certain air of finality to it. I mean, the guy on the ground? He ain’t getting up. He’s done. Finito. Kaputzki. There is no getting up from the ground. Even the waters in the lake are still. The only thing that is not still is the sunrise in the foreground.

You can see the sun rising up, pushing away the blackness of the night sky.

The sun is rising. The guy’s looking at the sunrise as his last breath. The symbolism here is pretty strong: a new day is coming, even if the battle you’ve lost has got you feeling like the world is ending.

The 10 of Swords has a strong undercurrent of renewal, mixed with a bunch of rough energy.

Did you ever have a battle that was absolutely devastating for you, like a divorce that drained every last penny from your account? If so, you likely know that feeling of odd relief you had when the judge finally banged the gavel on the desk.

Or, if you haven’t had that, maybe you once got really sick from a night of partying. You puked, puked, puked until finally you realized your stomach is empty. There’s that feeling of relief—the nausea is gone, even though you still feel horrible.

It’s that energy all in one card.

When I pull this, I get the feeling of a full, unequivocal goodbye to some part of one’s life. Something is ending, or at the very least, at rock bottom. It’s time to let go of what has failed you because it’s gone and not coming back.

There’s a lesson to be learned in the 10 of Swords.

This is the card that says, “Rest now, warrior. You lost the battle, but a new day is starting and you can heal with whatever you have left over. A new dawn is coming, so try to dust the ashes off yourself.”

In a weird way, it’s a card of strained optimism. You quite literally can’t get any worse than what you’re going through with this card. It’s here. This is your Dark Night of the Soul. You’ve been awakened, you can only go up, but it’s going to be a rough climb.

Of course, it’s also saying something is over. As in, if you’ve been clinging to hope that something will get better, it’s time to release that hope. The sooner you accept the ending, the better.

Here’s my advice if you recently pulled a 10 of Swords in your reading.

Like with all things tarot-related, everything is dependent on what the connotations of the reading are. If it came up in the past portion of a reading, congrats! That means you’ve officially crossed over the worst of it.

If you’ve found it in the present, you’ve officially “bottomed out.” In other words, you’re already aware that something ended. You’re in the middle of a disaster or quite literally about to be in one. Perhaps you feel betrayed, stunned, or hopeless.

In the future, it’s easy to feel a certain sense of dread from it. The good news is that it’s also a sign that something will end—and that in a weird way, you won’t feel bad about it. If anything, it may be a relief once it’s all been said and done.

The overall meaning, though, remains the same: a new dawn will always be there. Even if it feels like the end of the world, it’s not. A new day will always happen.
